Description: As a
busy teacher you don’t have the time to plough through copious websites,
read countless abstracts and download flipcharts, only to find they are
not of any great use. It takes time to find good resources that are
appropriate to your year level, and units of work. Over a couple of
years working with the IWB in Junior Schools I have collated some
excellent resources, and used some very good software packages. This
session will not only allow the participants to go away armed with some
great resources but will aim to help them integrate board use into their
daily routine to compliment learning. |

This presentation was

Description: The
answer to this question will be addressed in this session by outlining a
number of arguments under the following headings, supported by a number
of excellent resources collected over a number of years using
Interactive Whiteboards in Junior Schools:
*Interactivity
*Dedicated Internet Connection
*Enhancement of Computer Awareness
*Annotation
*Create own Flipcharts
*Modify Flipcharts online
*Tools to help whiteboard instruction
At the end of the session the participants will be more prepared to
convince their school decision makers to allocate funds to purchasing
interactive whiteboards. They will be more equipped to help them realise
the difference the boards can make in student learning and teacher
instruction. |

This presentation was
presented by Nicole Ball and Debbie Crowe at the Sixth National IWB
Conference in 2009.
Description:
Interactive Whiteboards are an exciting tool in the numeracy and
literacy block. In the whole class teaching session it is easy to model
strategies and skills then use this information to refer back to during
sharing time. Students love assisting in shared activities and they are
empowered when they see their own work used as a teaching model for
others. The IWB can be used to assess student learning with students
able to showcase their understandings. The whole class share time is
extremely powerful, especially when student work is utilised to discuss
the how and why of their work. Having the work on the IWB for all to
see, makes this accessible to all and promotes discussion focused on the
purpose of the session. Examples of activities students use in
independent small group sessions will also be demonstrated. |

This presentation was
presented by Fiona Banjer at the Sixth National IWB Conference in 2009.
Description: Game
consoles, such as the Nintendo Wii and handheld devices such as the DS
are commonplace in the homes of our students. In the classroom they are
considered ‘innovative’ tools and some teachers are making effective use
of them to draw learners into the curriculum and sustain student
engagement. Research supports the integration of learning experiences
which embrace the technologies our young students play with. The IWB in
your classroom becomes a tool with which to cross the bridge between the
classroom curriculum and your students’ gaming worlds. During this
session we will discuss how to share the resources fairly, how to
advocate for their use in the curriculum and, if possible, also have
some time to play! |

This presentation was

Description: “Come
in – sit down – shut up – face the front – and everybody listen to me!”
It is an almost laughable
‘old-school’ teacher stereotype that we dismissed half a century ago.
Teaching in those days was very ‘teacher centered’. But let’s be
careful! In our race to introduce the interactive whiteboard we need to
realize that we are bringing back to our classrooms a device that is
essentially very teacher centered. The IWB does much in the way of
promising engaged learners but unless we use it both thoughtfully and
creatively our hope in its ability to transform a classroom is
misplaced. Do we use them well? Sadly, too many IWBs are being used for
little more than impotent data projection. Let’s get the pedagogy right!
This session will expand your horizon to teaching and learning
possibilities for the board. |

This presentation was

Description:
Storylines is a theme based literature program developed for Years 7 and
* English classes. It is prepared and delivered by teacher librarian
team members once a cycle. We prepare a presentation that brings
together literature, film, audio, websites, interactive – anything which
develops our theme and engages our students. Now in its third year, we
have struggled with the issue of presenting a seamless multimedia
program with limited face to face time. We are also now using this model
for sessions with Year 12 English classes to introduce related texts for
HSC literature modules. Switching this year from PowerPoint to SMART
Notebook 10 has lifted our performance and lowered presenter stress.
This session will demonstrate how software features have enhanced this
program, including: using media files as inclusions and attachments;
incorporating clips from ClickView and Screen Australia; page groups;
capture; record; animation; moveable objects; using interactive
websites; import from PowerPoint; export to PDF. |
