Interactive Whiteboards and TeachingThe educational potential of
interactive whiteboards will only be realised by skilful teachers using the
technology wisely.
It is the teacher who decides whether the board will be used as a whiteboard,
an interactive whiteboard, a large screen digital convergence facility or as
part of a network of digital hubs.
The teacher is the differentiator, not the technology.
However, what the interactive whiteboards can facilitate, when done well, is
the pedagogy of all the teachers in a school.
The implications of this development for student learning and school
improvement are clearly immense, for as we know, it is the quality of teaching
that ultimately enhances learning.
This section of the site explores the pedagogical skills required to optimise
the effectiveness of the IWB technology.
We are very conscious that we are at an early stage in the use of the
technology and that much has still to be learnt.
However we hope that the ideas in the various sections will help.
